Silver Wings
William J. Hall - July 25, 1995

Went back home to the farm
Past the place we used to live
Your garden was all overgrown
You gave it all you had to give
With your feet firm on the ground
You gave it your best try
And I can't stop flying

You stood there on the lawn
Worrying up at me
I was high in the breeze
At the top of our maple tree
Was it longing in your frown
Though you said I'd climbed too high
And I can't stop flying

You papered our rooms with
Pictures of our escape roads
With stories of your childhood dreams
And appearances on radio shows

Now we talk on the phone
It really comes as no surprise
You say I'm the dramatic one
But I know you're just a flyer in disguise
And you ask me for the truth
As if a bird could tell you why
I can't stop flying

You papered our rooms with
Pictures of our escape roads
With stories of your girlhood dreams
And appearances on radio shows

Went back home to the farm
And I can't stop flying
