Lonely
William J. Hall - August, 1981

See you walking down the street
Smiling at everybody you meet...
Looking like you're having a ball;
Laughing and talking and loving it all
But you're lonely.

See you when you're out to play...
Glance my direction and turn away.
Dancing with your new lover in the latest style...
Seeking refuge behind that impeccable smile.

Oh, I know,
That's the way it goes...
It's not easy, but I can tell
What you work so hard to hide so well.

See you get home late every night...
!5 With someone new to hold you tight.
Have another drink, another cigarette...
You're lying awake 'cause you can't forget
That you're lonely.

Oh, I know
That's the way it goes...
It's not easy, but I can tell
What you work so hard to hide so well.

See you wake up - it's another day...
You try to talk, but there's nothing to say.
Call up some friends on the telephone...
Try to get something together to keep from being alone.
