Haul Away
William J. Hall - October, 1976

Hudson River runs to the sea
And the winds are all good to me
Sun and moon keep me company
So haul, haul away
We're heading homeward today

Hauling apples down from the north
Hauling sea bass up from the coast
Now the nights have all gone to frost
So haul, haul away
We're heading homeward today

When the sky is filled with mare's tails
And the wind drives harder than nails
You can hear her sing in the sails
Haul away

Well, the autumn shore is a sight
When the waves are all capped with white
And the sea gulls cry from their flight
Haul away

Summer sun shines down on my back
August moon rolls over the deck
Autumn rains come out of the west
So haul, haul away
We're heading homeward today

Through the hills the great river flows
And the wind calls out as it blows
And the water laughs as she goes
Haul away
We're heading homeward today
